ST. MICHAEL'S ORTHODOX CHURCH
Geneva, New York
ANNOUNCEMENTS - NEWS - EVENTS

Unitl May 15th, we are still under the mandatory State of New York quarantine protocols.

We will live-stream (God Willing) the services of Great Vespers (beginning at 6:00pm) and the Divine Liturgy (beginning at 10:30am) for the weekends from April 25 through May 10.

DUE TO THE FORMAL "STATE OF EMERGENCY" DECLARED IN NEW YORK, MORE STRINGENT PROHIBITIONS HAVE BEEN PLACED ON ATTENDANCE AT SERVICES.  ONLY THE PRIEST & CHANTER WILL BE PRESENT DURING THE SERVICES.

THE PRIEST OFFERS THE PRAYERS OF THE AKATHIST AND DIVINE LITURGY ON BEHALF OF ALL OF OUR ST. MICHAEL'S PARISHIONERS -- since you cannot be present at the services, please add your prayers in your home (or place of quarantine) during the service times.  God bless you.

SERVICE CHANGES:

Dear Parishioners & Friends of St. Michael’s Parish:

I have just received instructions from Metropolitan JOSEPH’s office regarding how we should proceed in the next few weeks.

I have edited the list (below) from the larger list to fit our particular needs at St. Michael’s (we are a small parish and some of the instructions were meant for larger congregations).

These instructions will be in effect until Palm Sunday evening (that is, through Saturday, April 11th) – unless we receive updated instructions.

 Here are the main points:

  • NO COFFEE HOURS
  • NO MIDWEEK OR SATURDAY SERVICES (NO AKATHIST SERVICES)
  • SUNDAY LITURGY SHOULD ONLY BE ATTENDED BY PRIEST & CHANTER (the Holy Bread calendar will be suspended until Palm Sunday; there will be no bulletins published)
  • NO MEETINGS (Our April 5thParish Council meeting will be postponed until a later date TBD)
  • FOR SPECIFIC QUESTIONS: e-mail or call Fr. Gregory

Here is an edited & abbreviated portion of the Metropolitan’s letter:

As we cautioned in our encyclical of last week, we are in the midst of a

rapidly changing situation, and it was likely that we would be asked to make more sacrifices to contain the spread of the coronavirus. With yesterday’s announcement of the new CDC recommendations by President Trump, that time has sadly come.

With pain of heart, but also hope in our Lord, I ask the clergy and faithful of our Archdiocese to abide by these new directives that we may do our part in combatting this pandemic:

  1.  Beginning today, all parishes are instructed to cancel all non-liturgical, in-person activities including schools, business meetings, and social functions.
  2.  All liturgical services will be served with only clergy, servers, and chanters. No liturgical service can total more than ten person
  3.  Priests are instructed to limit services to only the Friday evening Akathist and the Sunday Orthros & Divine Liturgy (as well as the liturgy for the Annunciation on March 25th).
  4.  The Archdiocese encourages everyone to use their internet to participate in services of the Church.  If your own parish does not have streaming services, use the links here to find a service to watch: http://www.stmaryorthodoxchurch.org/multimedia/live  http://myocn.net/worship/  https://www.goarch.org/live-broadcasts
  5. Use the prayers found on the Archdiocesan website for you and your family:  http://ww1.antiochian.org/orthodox-prayers
  6. All measures to ensure the cleaning and sanitizing of the church must continue even though we are limiting our numbers of faithful in attendance.
  7. Funerals must be limited to the guidelines set by our civil authorities (only family members should be in attendance; there will be no calling hours in funeral homes or churches).
  8. Baptisms should be postponed except for cases of emergency.
  9. Finally, we pray that by implementing these measures in coordination with our civil authorities, we can hasten the time when it will be safe to return to a full liturgical life in Church, and, God willing, save lives at the same time.

SERVICES WILL BE LIVESTREAMED ON ST MICHAEL'S FACEBOOK PAGE <link>
